  2.                   The Clarified Artistic License
  3.  
  4. Preamble
  5.  
  6. The intent of this document is to state the conditions under which a
  7. Package may be copied, such that the Copyright Holder maintains some
  8. semblance of artistic control over the development of the package, while
  9. giving the users of the package the right to use and distribute the
  10. Package in a more-or-less customary fashion, plus the right to make
  11. reasonable modifications.
  12.  
  13. Definitions:
  14.  
  15.     "Package" refers to the collection of files distributed by the
  16.     Copyright Holder, and derivatives of that collection of files
  17.     created through textual modification.
  18.  
  19.     "Standard Version" refers to such a Package if it has not been
  20.     modified, or has been modified in accordance with the wishes of the
  21.     Copyright Holder as specified below.
  22.  
  23.     "Copyright Holder" is whoever is named in the copyright or
  24.     copyrights for the package.
  25.  
  26.     "You" is you, if you're thinking about copying or distributing this
  27.     Package.
  28.  
  29.     "Distribution fee" is a fee you charge for providing a copy of this
  30.     Package to another party.
  31.  
  32.     "Freely Available" means that no fee is charged for the right to use
  33.     the item, though there may be fees involved in handling the item. 
  34.     It also means that recipients of the item may redistribute it under
  35.     the same conditions they received it.

  38. Standard Version of this Package without restriction, provided that you

  74. 4. You may distribute the programs of this Package in object code or
  75. executable form, provided that you do at least ONE of the following:

  77.     a) distribute a Standard Version of the executables and library
  78.     files, together with instructions (in the manual page or equivalent)
  79.     on where to get the Standard Version.

  81.     b) accompany the distribution with the machine-readable source of
  82.     the Package with your modifications.

  84.     c) give non-standard executables non-standard names, and clearly
  85.     document the differences in manual pages (or equivalent), together
  86.     with instructions on where to get the Standard Version.

  93. 5. You may charge a distribution fee for any distribution of this
  94. Package. If you offer support for this Package, you may charge any fee
  95. you choose for that support.  You may not charge a license fee for the
  96. right to use this Package itself.  You may distribute this Package in
  97. aggregate with other (possibly commercial and possibly nonfree) programs
  98. as part of a larger (possibly commercial and possibly nonfree) software
  99. distribution, and charge license fees for other parts of that software
  100. distribution, provided that you do not advertise this Package as a
  101. product of your own. If the Package includes an interpreter, You may
  102. embed this Package's interpreter within an executable of yours (by
  103. linking); this shall be construed as a mere form of aggregation,
  104. provided that the complete Standard Version of the interpreter is so
  105. embedded.

  107. 6. The scripts and library files supplied as input to or produced as
  108. output from the programs of this Package do not automatically fall under
  109. the copyright of this Package, but belong to whoever generated them, and
  110. may be sold commercially, and may be aggregated with this Package.  If
  111. such scripts or library files are aggregated with this Package via the
  112. so-called "undump" or "unexec" methods of producing a binary executable
  113. image, then distribution of such an image shall neither be construed as
  114. a distribution of this Package nor shall it fall under the restrictions
  115. of Paragraphs 3 and 4, provided that you do not represent such an
  116. executable image as a Standard Version of this Package.

  118. 7. C subroutines (or comparably compiled subroutines in other languages)
  119. supplied by you and linked into this Package in order to emulate
  120. subroutines and variables of the language defined by this Package shall
  121. not be considered part of this Package, but are the equivalent of input
  122. as in Paragraph 6, provided these subroutines do not change the language
  123. in any way that would cause it to fail the regression tests for the
  124. language.

  126. 8. Aggregation of the Standard Version of the Package with a commercial
  127. distribution is always permitted provided that the use of this Package
  128. is embedded; that is, when no overt attempt is made to make this
  129. Package's interfaces visible to the end user of the commercial
  130. distribution. Such use shall not be construed as a distribution of this
  131. Package.

  133. 9. The name of the Copyright Holder may not be used to endorse or
  134. promote products derived from this software without specific prior
  135. written permission.

  137. 10. THIS PACKAGE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND WITHOUT ANY EXPRESS OR IMPLIED
  138. WARRANTIES, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF
  139. MERCHANTIBILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
